    Wheel build

Got some bad news from my LBS last night that my rear wheel(Dura Ace 7800) is cracked. The wheel only has around 7000 miles on it. Would like to re-use the hub on it to build another wheel. Looking for suggestions, Wheel, spokes. My weight is around 190 and ride on roads that are normally in good shape and I do a fair amount of climbing.

Is it a Dura-Ace 7800 hub? How many spoke holes? Do you have a picture?

It is a 7800 Dura Ace hub and I believe the spoke count is 20, but I will verify with LBS as they have the wheel at the moment.

Looks like 20 spokes, straight pull. 20 spokes on the rear for a 190 pound rider might be asking a bit much.

Also, these look to be hubs that have the nipples at the hub rather than at the rim. Apparently, the rims do exist and you might be able to get your LBS to order a replacement for you. Of course, you may be looking to do this all over again in another 5K miles.....

What exactly cracked? The rim? The hub?

I weigh 195#, and the lowest spoke-count that I run is 28h (rear).

The rim cracked, the hub is fine. I also have an Ultegra hub I could use which has a 32 hole spoke count. Just need some ideas on Rim and Spokes.

Go with the Ultegra Hub if it's in good condition. Here's a link to reviews of some of the 2013 rim options:

Great info, thanks for the link. Durability, weight, price, in that order.

Thanks for the advice guy's. I ended up having my LBS order me a Velocity A-23 with DT 2.0 spokes. He laced it up to my Ultegra Hub(32 spoke) for $147.00 total cost.
