(Hed Belgium C2 alloy rim) and was looking at the way it was laced, and notice the holes were stagger to Ds and Nds, but was laced with the Ds spokes going to the Nds hole and the Nds spokes going to the Ds hole, Either I have been doing it wrong, or did not understand Mike T and Sheldon Brown correctly and I have been lacing my Ds spoke to the hole nearest the Ds and Nds to the Nds hole when the hole pattern is stagger.
Or is this something related the the Belgium rim or some lacing pattern I'm not aware of.
Sit down, and with the wheel flat on your lap and the valve stem hole opposite you (you're at 6 o'clock it's at 12), go one hole to the left of the valve stem hole. That spoke should go to the top flange of the hub.
Further, HED drills some rims for front and some for rear. Though the orientation remains as above, a rear drilled rim has a specific side for drive and non-drive. The spoke loading holes (on the outer side of the rim) for the drive side are very slightly less offset than those for the non-drive side. We've always gotten front drilled rims and used them for both, and HED may have done away with this rear-specific drilling.
But no matter what, with the wheel on your lap as described above, the spoke one to the left of the valve stem hole goes to the top hub flange.
Ok, first this rim is already laced to a hub, not by me, for I had it built by a wheel builder. To answer your question looking at the wheel from the drive side the first spoke to the left of the valve stem hole goes to a rim hole that is stagger to the non drive side of the rim, I thought that if you have a rim that is not center hole drilled, and is stagger drilled favoring one side to the other ever hole. That the Ds spokes go to the hole favoring the drive side and the same for the Nds spoke to the Nds favoring side.
Sorry guys I think I have figure out what was confusing me, I was looking at the spoke holes as they run were the spoke nipples go in from or where the tube would lay. the holes are stagger here from one side to the other and may be drilled at a little angle, but when you look at the inside were the spoke nipple sticks out they appear to be in center maybe slightly favoring one side and the other. Sorry for the confusion.
